CVSS: how vulnerability severity is rated and why the price depends on it
KEMEL.TECH · Updated
CVSS (Common Vulnerability Scoring System) is an international vulnerability scoring scale from 0 to 10. Ranges: LOW 0.1–3.9, MEDIUM 4.0–6.9, HIGH 7.0–8.9, CRITICAL 9.0–10.0. The higher the score, the faster it must be fixed. At KEMEL.TECH the cost of each vulnerability found is determined by its CVSS level.
Severity levels
- CRITICAL (9.0–10.0): for example, remote code execution, SQL injection, authorization bypass. Fix immediately.
- HIGH (7.0–8.9): for example, stored XSS, IDOR, JWT errors. Fix in the next release.
- MEDIUM (4.0–6.9): for example, CSRF, reflected XSS, OAuth and CORS errors. On a planned basis.
- LOW (0.1–3.9): for example, security headers, SSL settings. As time allows.
What the score depends on
The score takes into account how the attack is carried out (over the network or locally), how complex it is, whether privileges and user action are required, and the impact on the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.
How this relates to price
In the “pay for what is found” model the price is tied to the CVSS level: from 15,000 ₸ for LOW to 600,000 ₸ for CRITICAL. This makes the calculation transparent: the client knows the rate for each category in advance, and duplicates are not paid for twice.
Frequently asked questions
- What does CVSS 9.8 mean?
- It is the CRITICAL level: the vulnerability almost certainly allows serious disruption or access to data. It must be fixed immediately.
- Does a high CVSS always mean high business risk?
- No. The score describes technical severity. The real risk depends on which data and systems are affected. That is why findings are confirmed manually and come with an explanation.
